Hello, and welcome to taking that brave first step in seeking the support you need to reach your optimal daily living! If you are, most likely you have been considering counseling for any number of days, weeks, or even months before you finally decided to get serious about getting started. I totally get it, you are hesitant and nervous. You may fear being judged or shamed. You may be worried about opening up to a stranger. You may be unsure of how counseling works and if it can help. I want to assure you, these are all very normal thoughts and feelings about starting counseling. Southern Breeze Counseling offers a safe, supportive, and relaxed atmosphere for clients to feel comfortable throughout the process of counseling. My goal is to offer you a safe space and welcome all parts of you, even the ones you are afraid to acknowledge. When life happens and we experience trauma, pain, or hardships, we are resilient and find ways to cope or adapt to our situation. This could look like shutting down, getting defensive, being angry or aggressive, feeling numb, depressed, or anxious. It could look like being suspicious and unable to trust or let others in. These are all ways to try to cope with your pain and keep yourself from ever feeling like that again, even though there isn’t any reason to suspect that is about to happen again. These behaviors that show up to protect us can become so extreme that they start to feel more hurtful to us than helpful, keeping us from being truly happy in life. This does not mean you are broken. There is nothing wrong with you, this is perfectly normal and we all feel this way at times. It just means that you are ready for a change and these behaviors that once protected you, don’t feel like protection anymore. Together, we can explore these behaviors, learn to see them from a different perspective and heal the wounds they protect, leaving you feeling calm, curious, compassionate, confident, courageous, clear, connected, and creative. These are all qualities you already possess but can get hidden behind pain and protective behaviors. Don’t wait another day to get the support you need and deserve in life.
